This is my new favorite blog:

Has some wonderful series on the logistics of Helm’s Deep, and the Siege of Gondor. Written from the standpoint of a professional classicist and military historian. Verdict: both book versions are very believable, movie versions a bit dodgy.
Also has series on
- 300/Sparta (contrary to popular belief, Spartans are average fighters and also raging assholes even for the time)
- Fremen (contrary to popular belief, hardscrabble societies do not produce good fighters)
- Various Game of Throne analyses (mostly a disaster)
- Analyses of various fictional kits (Gondorian infrantryman, etc.) vis-a-vis plausibility.
Seems right up the alley of the readership here.

I've looked at his stuff before, and particularly like his Lonely City series.
