Another Thursday! Two months since the last update. Hope all is well with our esteemed design team. I’ve been checking the Discord server; nothing happening there either.

Agamemnon gave a sign of life on Monday on the Discord, so at least they're not ALL dead meat...

School's been crazy mad this semester for me. No breather whatsoever. :|

In December, I was asked what I wanted for Christmas. I said full eight hours of sleep. And I've been actually getting some of that lately.

Sorry for not having a massive reveal, or better news at this point.

I'll be visiting Scone palace on the 2nd weekend of May for a slight if busy breather (feel free to hit me up when in the area). Then exams. Then... hopefully we can get this game out of the door.

P.S.
Apparently reCAPTCHA1 is dead. I jury-rigged the forums so that people can at least register.

Noting that Higgins was having his holiday in early/mid May and then thought he might get back to looking at S&S, and it is now late May, without being (too) pushy, I thought I'd just pop in and check for a pulse. You still with us Higgins? :) (And Agamemnon, for that matter?)

I can't speak for Higgins, but I'm alive and theoretically back to working on all of this. I've been dealing with a lot of life-stuff that is now settling down -- at least somewhat.

There is slightly more chatter happening on our discord server. https://discord.gg/6pBQmSt

I've got a habit of trying to speak more officially when I respond to anything on here, whereas I tend to be more off-the-cuff on discord and respond more casually/frequently. It's a habit I should try to break.

I would be in favor of a June update.

Things have been quiet on the forums, but things are still moving behind the scenes. The discord channel has been quite active lately.

To give an idea of what has been going on, I'll quote this snippet from Agamemnon:
I have basically completed all of the new intro text and the first book entirely. Book II just needs me to finish social class out, which requires me to figure out how I want to tweek Book III for the buying shit, because Im still not satisfied with how it turned out.
Book IV is about 50% finished.
Highlights:

> Intro stuff got better situated.
> Book I is a bit more clear throughout.
> Traits got way cleaned up.
> Drives have been overhauled to deal with a lot of nonsense that was cropping up.

And a number of maneuvers are in the process of being touched up/fixed.
Still no official dates are being made, but progress hasn't stopped.

For those of us who don't tend to use Discord on a regular basis, it would still be nice to get the occasional official update on the forum...

To be fair, I haven't been making official updates on discord either.

At present I'm staring at a ~50k word draft that includes all of the relevant material released both from the last S&S release _and_ the stuff that carries over from Band of Bastards. I'm doing the continuity editing to make sure that the stuff written earlier is in agreement with the stuff written later. The only remaining design issue is some fiddling I've been on how you determine starting goods/gear at character creation, and I'll probably go with a "fuck it, good enough for now" solution just to get this draft out the door. Afterward, it will go over to my volunteer editors and once proofed, be thrown out for public release.

The current draft is an exciting one for me because it will represent the first time I've been able to release a version of the game that is a complete, self-contained system. It may not have all of the extra features we intend to add in (Emphasis is on hold until the combat system gets more testing in its present configuration), and the GM section still needs to be written, but all of the core play mechanics will be available for people to run off and fiddle with. Hopefully that will also see a return to forum activity as well. While discord is great for quick questions and random chatter, it's not so good for feature discussions, actual play reports, campaign/setting stuff, and so on.

Definitely looking forward to it - hopefully on its release, the forum might become a little more active ;). What we already have looks like a much easier system to teach to beginners than The Riddle of Steel was, and I really want to run a few one shots to get some of my friends a bit more interested.
