Well I was going to do this some other time and in a different way (actually I planned to PM Benedict today), but since you ask... I could present my view and intentions here and now. Not only for you, for Benedict and Marras too, and anyone interested.
At first the game was meant to be just an "one-shot" adventure, but it seems it's gonna grow. A little.
What will be the game about? Well to be honest, when reading about the era (XIV century), I was shocked by the sheer amount of catastrophic and ground-shaking events: climate change and Great Famine, Black Death plague, Western Schism - to name the most important. This has led to social, political and religious transformations. So that is a great material for a campaign. I thought it would be interesting to explore this world, make players witness changes in human mentality and morality, present my vision on how it might have looked like.
The first part of the game... where a priest has turned villagers into a blood-thirsty mob. I've tried to portray, how some people change, when confronted with seemingly apocalyptic events. They've become prone to this crazy charlatan of a priest, who was convinced that the God is willing to wipe out the human population and his task is to help him. Using his rhetorical skills (and some alchemy, apparently, hehe) he made people follow him.
In the upcoming second part... I'd like to touch religion too. But this time, more doctrinal - pre-reformation, schisms,
heresy and such. To be coming next? Well probably social issues (feudalism, revolts), power-play between weakening nobles, forever raging wars and roaming mercenary bands (like White Company, Ruthard's formation). I'm also thinking about involving players in one of the biggest discoveries of the times, possibly changing the timeline of the history
Speaking of players... obviously, their adventures are what we focus on, in-turmoil world being the background of their stories. So there is Ruthard, former mercenary, trying to help his friend after having his revenge... Hans Foth, always looking for shiny shiny gold and haunted by a pesky bounty hunter.
What we're up to at this moment? Ruthard is heading to a castle, where a powerful baron is said to hold an important church-person. He needs to bring this archbishop to sir Erich, to earn total freedom (and maybe more?) for his friends and himself. Nobody knows, where Hans Foth is.
