Karl Friedson

Post by Alex »

After reading Marras character, I thought it would be interesting to create my own character.

Karl Friedson
Concept and Appearance: Karl stands close to seven feet tall and weighs more than 250 pounds. This light-skin giant sports a dark beard that he always keeps a few inches long, but well-trimmed. He also has a crooked nose.

He keeps telling people that his nose was broken by a horse’s hoof when he was younger. That’s why he gets so mad when he gets close to horses. The truth is, he is not simply angry at horses, but he is actually afraid of them. After getting his nose broken, he tried to ride a standard horse, but it could not bear his weight. The horse collapsed and Karl was almost crushed by it. Since that time, he has vowed to never ride a horse. The closest he’ll get to a horse will be riding in a cart.

Priorities
4 - Proficiencies
4 - Attributes
3 - Edges & Flaws
2 – Skills
2 - Social Class (Low

Attributes
Strength: 5
Agility: 2
Stamina: 5
Speed: 2
Acumen: 3
Cunning: 3
Willpower: 3
Social: 2

As a large character, he is obviously very strong and resilient. However, due to his sheer size, people sometimes underestimate him thinking he is just a brute, but he is not stupid.

Skills (16)
Trade (Mercenary): 3 (free)
Athletic: 3
Command: 1
Manipulation: 2 (Intimidation)
Medicine: 1 (Tourniquet for bleeding)
Steel: 2 (Gore)
Streetwise: 2
Survival: 1
Teamster: 2
Warfare: 2

Proficiencies (14, max 9)
Longsword: 9
Mass weapon: Default + 1 = 6
Brawling: Default + 3 = 7
Dagger: Default +1 = 5

Obviously, the rules for Proficiency and Default are being rewritten right now, so this is just temporary.

Equipment
Claymore or Zweihänder swords

Obviously, since he is only a Low Freeman, I’ll have to wait for the equipment chapter to see if he can actually afford a two-handed sword.

Edges
Large (major)

Flaws
Horse Phobia (minor)
He can't stand horses. He will never ride a horse willingly. However, he does appreciate horse meat...

I thought it would make for an interesting choice: he cannot flee with horses and he will have a lot of difficulty to hide due to his size. He'll have to use his wits to survive in difficult situation.

Story Aspects
To be worked out with the other Bastards.

I also want him to have a loyal dog. Can an animal count as a Retainer at one point?

What are Karl's SAs? I haven't been able to find them.

I put my SA down way back in the initial “play by post interest?” thread so we would have some common SA.

SA
Punish the Noble who raped a lowborn woman: 3

I want to fit in with the locals: 1
(not easy when you are a stranger and almost 7 feet tall)

Find the man who robbed me years ago and make him pay for it: 1

(Story to be used as you see fit: When I was much younger and just beginning my career as a mercenary, I met an outlandish man. He claimed to be a noble from Venice and that he was just fighting to escape the boredom of his rich life. Even at that time, his stories seemed rubbish to me. However, he did offer me fancy drinks I never had before. And I obviously passed out…

In the morning, my meagre funds were gone. He didn’t steal much, but he still stole everything I had. I looked for him, but he was gone.

I never thought I would see him again. But now I am in Venice, so maybe our paths will finally cross…

I don’t know very much about the man. I have a name, although I doubt it’s his real name. I am not even sure he is a noble or if he was just pretending.)

I put my equipment somewhere in another thread. I don`t have much time tonight, but I will try to find it and put in this thread for easier/quicker reference.

Since BoB combat assumes you break into 3 1v1 combats (until someone is victorious and join another for a 2v1), I think it will be best if we do your 1v1 here to keep things from getting confused in a single thread.

Continue posting your In Character stuff as normal but do the OOC stuff like dice rolling and maneuver selections etc here.

Using this thread for the combat is fine.
Unfortunately, I'll be working two night shifts in a row, but I'll try to post ASAP.

Hope your exams went well :)

Since the men are wielding batons, Karl opts to use his club.
He jumps over the desk and take a big swing with his club.

He aims for the head, hoping to drop the man with one blow, so that he has time to help the others.

Total CP : 12 + SA 3 = Total CP 15 (unless SA is added to each tempo roll)
I assume that a baton, for the sake of rule, is just a fancy club. Therefore we have the same reach.

Karl takes a big swing with 11 dice and aim for the head.

(I guess I wait for the Defender to choose which manoeuvre he takes before rolling the dice?)

(second question: I don't think the 10+ rule applies to combat, but I am not sure)
"The 10+ Rule No matter how high a character’s attribute or skills might be, you don’t roll more than 10 dice for an attribute or skill check. Any dice above that become an
automatic success." I don't think the 10+ rule applies to combat, but I am not sure)

SA applies to your combat pool once, not at each tempo.

10+ rule does not apply for combat rolls.

Yes, baton is just a fancy club.

Are you going to use any augmentations?

He defends with 6 dice disengage.

This is at TN5 for disengage
[dice seed=46528 secure=ceb581b9_0]6d10[/dice]
4 successes

extras for possible exploding
[dice seed=20134 secure=5656124c_1]3d10[/dice]

I'm not sure he is allowed to disengage: "One cannot Disengage after having performed an offensive maneuver in the previous tempo or Disengage immediately at a Red / White throw."

Anyway, I'm going to bash his head:

Swing to the head with no augmentation:

[dice seed=17451 secure=1eb9c6e7_0]11d10[/dice]

5 successes, with no Exploding

MoS 1 + 6 Damage = 7 Damage - Stamina (and Armor underneath the mask?)

Location:
[dice seed=48973 secure=60158bb3_1]1d6[/dice]
To the face!

Damage: 7 minus Stamina? To the face? I hope the guy has got some Stamina (at least 3), or he is already dead

Good point with the disengage. He uses dodge, but gets the same number of successes.

He has 3 stam, no armor on his face.

To see result on wound wheel:
[dice seed=32437 secure=65b86ac1_0]1d6[/dice]

Resisting KO3
[dice seed=34259 secure=99b3a9e0_1]5d10[/dice]
Since it's now at TN8, that's a fail.

Result:
Impact 8, Base TN8, BL1, KNOCKED OUT.
Face mangled. Shattered cheekbone.
You keep initiative and reach advantage for tempo 2.

Karl takes his four remaining dice and take a swing at the arm holding the baton.
(no augmentation)

[dice seed=32936 secure=c2857431_0]4d10[/dice]

2 success : MoS2 + 6 DR : 8B - 3 Stamina (any armour on the arm?)

Location roll:
[dice seed=31694 secure=70ea9351_1]1d6[/dice]
2: Shoulder

It is not very clear in the rule: how long does knocked out applies?

He's knocked out you can automatically kick the weapon away.

It will last the entire combat, but he will regain consciousness soon after.

In that case, Karl takes the man's baton and dagger. He throws them both against a wall of the workshop. It must be pretty dark on the first floor, so they will be hard to retrieve.

He than seizes the man's dominant hand and snaps one of the finger.
Karl is not trying to severely injure the man ; he is just making sure that once he recovers from the concussion, he will not be back for a fight. Karl tries to do this as fast as possible.

(Any roll for this since the other man is unconscious?)

Once this is done, he rushes to aid his closest teammate. Since he was hiding close to the front door, Giorgi is probably closer than Ferran.

I think the three fights are mostly over.

Should we wait until you update the Ambush thread before posting anything there?
