Re: Band of Bastards Play by Post interest?
I don't know if this is a cheap shot but I have been thinking that my character's former (physician) mentor and I separated our ways in less than good terms and my character wants to make amends to him. I will add an SA that spells it out more properly.
Perhaps the raped girl was the mentor's daughter/granddaughter/servant or something like that. Or my character might have known that girl before he went to war and wants to avenge her. In that case there should be a story why I didn't try to stop those assholes in the first place.

Hey, I probably know that guy!!!thirtythr33 wrote:You misunderstand. The game will still be based in Venice, it is not going to be a battlefront game. I'm going to try to keep the focus of the politics in the city on things created by the ongoing war so it ties in the soldiering types better.
For example, maybe two merchants are fighting over who in going to win the galley supply chain contract for the war effort or maybe there is a Landsknecht who deserted from his company and is seeking refuge in Venice.
Also, Giorgio would probably be down for putting the hurt on some poncy noble types who think they can get away with rape just because they have a silver spoon up their arse. Plus he has some desire to get back into the fight, and maybe this is something actually worth fighting for?
Also, thirtythr33, how much info about our npcs do you want? I can write you up a little bit of backstory about Eleanora if you need it.

Yeah, and probably would know Georg von Frundsberg too.DannyBoy wrote:Hey, I probably know that guy!!!
3-5 sentences should be more than enough. I like to have a lot of room to work with so it is easier to find a place to slide them into the story.DannyBoy wrote:Also, thirtythr33, how much info about our npcs do you want? I can write you up a little bit of backstory about Eleanora if you need it.
It seems like a lot of you were intrigued by the idea of a nobleman getting away with rape, so I'll definitely look to incorporate something along those lines. I'm already putting together some ideas. Like I said above, don't be too specific in your SAs and NPCs because the more you write in the less surprises I can cook up for you.
If anyone feels uncomfortable about playing in a game where rape may be a prominent part in the story please send me a private message and I'll do my best to make any necessary adjustments or accommodations.

So, 33, how much details/ideas/SAs do you need from us to create a scenario and start the game?
And guys, what will be the common goal for us, tying us together? These bastards, raping nobles? I'm OK with that (I could join for many reasons: maybe my father told me to, or one of these nobles is my "beloved" stepbrother - but than he is mine ... I could also help you to gain your friendship). We can start our adventure here.
Or maybe you have some other ideas?

I have a pretty good justification to hang out just because of money but that possible rape scene might also be a hook.
I still have unwritten background and some free SA slots that can be used to justify almost anything. Both of the above work for me (as a player) but I am open for other suggestions, also.

Another thing that ties most of us together: we are all strangers to Venice, except for Marco.
Even if Giorgio and Cirillo were originally from Venice (sorry guys, I don't remember where you are from ), they have been traveling abroad for a while, and they just arrived in Venice.
The only one that really knows his way around is Marco. If we can trust him

Cirillo is from Venice but yes, it has been a while.
Can we trust him? In a game named like this?

As much as or as little as you guys want to put in. Basically I'm just going to keep a summary of each players SAs and flaws. I'm planning on trying to incorporate as many SAs as possible in the plot/setup and I'll be looking to challenge the characters on their flaws. Names for any NPCs you make would be good, but I can just as easily make them up myself.Korbel wrote:So, 33, how much details/ideas/SAs do you need from us to create a scenario and start the game?
Right now I'm looking at Marco's family as the starting point, with Giorgio and Karl hired as mercenaries/bodyguards and Cirillo being the in-house physician. Eleanora also lives there, working as a servant. Marco's father is very ill and faced with the real possibility of dying within a few months he has been trying to pressure his naive and simple eldest son Marco into taking more responsibilities.
Should he die, this would create a vacancy on the Council of Forty, something many families have an interest in. In addition, Marco's brother Giacomo has been quite vocal about how he thinks he is a more worthy heir to his father's estates despite being a younger brother.
For the opening scene I was thinking one of the house servants comes to Cirillo, claiming she was raped and Marco is asked by his father to investigate.

You criminals are doomed, Marco Holmes is in the town! With a whopping 1 in both Acumen and Willpower, my Memory is 2! Ha, by evening I will forget, what I discovered this morning (if I discover anything, by accident)...thirtythr33 wrote:and Marco is asked by his father to investigate.
Not having useful skills, like Streetwise or Manipulation, makes this even better. Guys, I think I need your help
Indeed. I really like this. I'm sure it's gonna be great.Alex wrote:Excellent starting point!

I agree, a good starting point!
I will try and finalize my character during this weekend so I am more prepared for play.

Re: Band of Bastards Play by Post interest?
I had one SA left, so here it is. It is somehow more specific, yet general enough to give a lot of leeway for the GM.
“Find the man who robbed me years ago and make him pay for it.”
When I was much younger and just beginning my career as a mercenary, I met an outlandish man. He claimed to be a noble from Venice and that he was just fighting to escape the boredom of his rich life. Even at that time, his stories seemed rubbish to me. However, he did offer me fancy drinks I never had before. And I obviously passed out…
In the morning, my meagre funds were gone. He didn’t steal much, but he still stole everything I had. I looked for him, but he was gone.
I never thought I would see him again. But now I am in Venice, so maybe our paths will finally cross…
I don’t know very much about the man. I have a name, although I doubt it’s his real name. I am not even sure he is a noble or if he was just pretending.

Sorry I haven't gotten this off the ground yet. I have been busy this last week and will be for this weekend too.
I'm committing to starting this game on the 21st April. Use the time until then finishing up your characters with equipment and naming all your NPCs and relatives. We will be using the starting point I outlined above.
