Especially given that 90% of the beta-text is already written. I'm now just fixing the layout and cross-checking consistency, etc etc. I've gotten basically nothing else done in a week or so now.

Only if we can keep ourselves from edits and rewrites.

To be fair, as we're digging through this.. Once something has gone into the beta layout, it's been final. It's basically a process of consistency checking every item as it goes in and ironing out any lingering bugs, inconsistencies or weak points.

Looking at it today was the first time I realized "Holy crap, we have an actual book." I have never been so psyched about this project.

Sounds like progress! I suppose you will finalize the beta before we get to see the character generation rules?

Hi there. My name's Dan from the frozen hellscape of Canada, and I'm pretty Darn stoked on this game. I've been lurking for a while waiting for the beta to come out and I figured I might as well come and ask some questions of my own.

Hey there! *Another lurker creeps out of the muck*

My name's Arthur from the lands of Nether.

Me and some mates have been playing Riddle of Steel for a bit, just like most folks here. While scouring the internet for pdf's i came across your site and i must say your game really looks promising!! Good job so far guys.

Love that you break down the game into basics and more advanced stuff, making it easier to get the hang of the system and upping the ante later on when everyone is comfortable with the basics.

Muhahaha customizing weapons ey? How about a 2 handed Forknife? Trident and blade in one!

Forknife (+1c/+2p/Extended) Maille Piercing, Boar Lugs

The slightly choppier version would have added the "hefty" trait when designing the weapon, switching the profile around to +2p/+1c.

Or add a Spiked Queue to that if you want to have the knife part in the other end. ;)

Hehe you might have to elaborate on the 'c' and the 'p' :)
My guess is the +c adds a die to the combat pool and the +p is a penetration modifier? 3------> or would that be <------3? damn that just looks wrong!

They're strength modifiers, so, this two-handed forknife would make St+1 cutting and St+2 piercing damage, and has an Extended length for the Reach purposes. Maille Piercing means it can deliver deadly wounds through maille and Boar Lugs... well, I guess you know what they are, but that's what we're using to model the wide trident head shape here.
