Any Czechs or Poles here by any chance?

Post by higgins »

As I'll be visiting Malbork next week (30 April - 3 May) and Prague the week after (7-10 May) I'm just throwing the question out here so that anyone in those areas wouldn't shake their fists at me if I passed their homeland or even their hometown without any kind of notice. If anyone is at those cities at that point in time, PM me and I'm sure we can arrange some kind of meet-up despite my hectic schedule. I'll happily bring a prototype character sheet along for a teaser

I kind of figured that, ha! :)

BTW, when planning the route, one software actually suggested passing through Berlin, but I didn't fall for that...

And Berlin is still 575 km away from Düsseldorf...

Well, I`m a 100% Pole. Unfortunately, I live very far from Malbork (>500km, the other end of Poland). Additionally, 1-3 of May is the Prime Time for our small business and I couldn`t leave for long.
But I wish you much fun! Have you ever been in Poland or Czech Republic? Malbork is impressive and Prague is beautiful!
If I can help you some way, just ask.

I have not been to either, so I'm really looking forward to visiting both. :)

I do have a couple of questions:
a) Coming in from the eurozone, how necessary is the money exchange?
b) The castle aside, what's THE thing to see (or do) in Malbork?
c) Any Czech Republic/Prague visiting advice would also be appreciated. :)

a) Get some PLN (50, 100, 200 PLN, something like that) as soon as possible. You will probably need them. You might get along with €, but it`s better not to take your chances.

b) Haven`t been there for some time, but I remember a Dinopark, it was fun. Well, I don`t remember much beside the castle.

c) Consider driving through Germany, really. It`s probably gonna be faster, their roads are just better. In Poland the landscapes are prettier, though (my opinion).

Really?

Google Maps suggests these three routes, while my HERE Drive+ app suggests going by Wrozław and then crossing from Nàchod. When I changed some Drive+ settings it routed me through Germany as well, hmm.

Considering that we'll be driving through half the Poland even when going through Germany, would the extra 120km by Berlin really pay off that much?

You can always make your decision in Swiebodzin. The pros for Germany-route: better quality roads, no speed limits ("no stop signs, speed limits!") on higways - if you have a fast vehicle, you probably gonna appreciate this.

Quick update: My clubmate won bronze in the sword and shield category at the IMCF World Championship. He was using my sword and my shield, so, clearly I'm taking half the credit, haha. I got my ass handed to me in longsword, but I'm hoping for better results in the Battle of the Nations as I bought a more agile blade.

As wifi is patchy in Poland to say the least, I'm signing out for now. :)

Congratulations for your mate, sword and shield! And good luck next time, I'm sure you will kick some asses!
I heard Poles dominated the tournament, earning a medal in every category? Good to know my compatriots can fight!

Yeah. They're just freaking huge and took out our captain in the buhurt. The Polish female buhurt team were tiny though. Lot of heart! :)
