Don't forget that a Priority 5 Proficiency gives you 28 (!) points to play with. Instead of 18 you get with Priority 4. It occurred to me that the payoff of a high Proficiency investment is a lot more substantial than it was with BoB, where the "smartest" choice would be Ref 10 + one Prof at 9.
Meaning that if you wanted to play around with this you could either
- Take every Melee proficiency in the book @ 5 plus a ranged proficiency @ 3.
- To make him more close to his previous incarnation get something like Longsword 10, Brawl 9, Polearm 9. Or Longsword 10, Brawl 6, Polearm 6, one Ranged 6. Or whatever.
A note on Proficiencies.
Now there's no Default. You tap the highest instead. With Longsword 10 that's +3. With Longsword 9 that's +2.
If your Proficiencies don't provide a Tap value you roll R @ FTN6.

Worth noting, that bit is specifically about proficiency tests as an attribute test. If you're using the full combat system, you just would be using raw reflex as your die pool at BTN.

Thanks for the heads up.
A question on CP formation. If your profs all are zero you get raw Reflex @ BTN. If you have lets say Sword 10 and Brawl 0, you grapple at raw Reflex + Sword tap? Or simply raw Reflex?

Grappling is based on Brawl. If you're in a grapple but have no Brawl, you treat it as any other scenario in which you are lacking the specific proficiency. So if you have Swords 10, that's tap 3. In a grapple you'd have Reflex+3.
