I've been posting bits an pieces of my kit quite errantly. The info and pics are all over the place. So, why not a dedicated thread?

Right now, my helm strikes of Harvey Dent. Before and after polishing.



The right side isn't really rusted, but covered in boiled linseed oil to prevent rusting. Linseed oil has done an outstanding job so far, but it does dull the shine.

I'm debating whether to give it another linseed coat after full polish, or try some kind of modern oil instead. Thoughts?

With a name like Harvey Dent I half-expected for you to have already caved it in.

I personally like the less shiney version more. If that's authentic Inwould go for it. Nice design though!

Yeah, it looks raw and... true. The shiny version would be for picking up girls

That's the rub. Linseed oil is an ancient substance and it works well, so, I'm sure it was used, but since it makes the armor dull, I'm not so sure whether it was used on polished armor. In pre-modern times, polishing amounted 75-80% of the armor's cost. So, if you've already paid four or five times the amount of a regular kit to have yours polished, would you really slap some linseed oil on it? Doubtful.

I agree that the dull one looks rougher. Like it has seen things.

In fact, last year in Poland, I thought that the helmets of the U.S. team seemed so boringly shiny. They just looked so unused. It's only later that I found out that their company was run by an actual drill sergeant or something of the like, and keeping a mirror polish on your armor was simply the order of the day.
