Road & Battles 2016

I have no idea how the fights will go in Castelo de Montemor-o-Velho when I get there, but the drive is surely gonna hurt. IMCF World Championships. 26-29 May 2016.

That's 4068 km or 2528 miles, not accounting for the inevitable detours. And then the same amount to drive back again.

Nice roadtrip ahead, Higgins!

Funny thing and might be a bit appropriate is that "velho" means wizard in Finnish :)

That can't be a coincidence, can it?

There are no coincidences in these cases. So, keep your wits about and don't trust anyone at the wizard's castle

So there's not a single one airline willing to take noble fighters and their small luggage for the epic quest to the Evil Wizard's Castle? O tempora, o mores! Life of a hero is not an easy one...

There would be, but we'd need to find a king to ransom first...

And that's why you take that route. To find that king to ransom :) Sounds like a plan :)

You would pass my home by about 20 kilometers while driving south of Wuppertal and Solingen ;)

I believe this qualifies as an excuse for the Inevitable Detour!
EinBein is a lucky Bastard, he'll see Beta earlier than us :)

I'm sure the beta will be out long before May. :)

That said, do you know any budget-priced camping sites or somesuch around there, where about eight travel-weary people could spend a night? We'll have to take a break somewhere along the line and that seems to be about the half-way mark.

Mh. I personally seldom camp in my home region... Had the same problem in Amsterdam once when I asked a resident on the street and he didn't know about the camping lot just two streets away.

Anyways, I'll keep an eye open and ask my more adventurous friends from the LARP side of life ;)

I would have offered my own garden, but for eight people I fear it might really get narrow in there :D

I just realised that due to the way Estonian has borrowed English words, I didn't really mean camping, but more like... a rentable cabin? We'd prefer not having to set up our massive tent. Something like this would be ideal:

Yes, that large flappy thing is our massive geteld style tent is drying out on our way to Prague. And you can see an awesome Australian fighter we picked up along the way. :D

Like the hut we spent our last hardcore three-days-RPG-weekend in!

http://www.haus-silva.de/

I just think it would be too far off your way (some 1 hour and 20 minutes).

In our direct vicinity it's more like flats to rent rather than houses. You have too keep in mind that North-Rhine-Westphalia and especially the Ruhrgebiet is one of the most densely populated areas in the world... Space is rare ;)

I believe you would have better opportunity after crossing the border to the Netherlands or Belgium.

Anyways, in German the kind of hut you search would be calles "Ferienhaus". If you would ever have to ask :)

Ah, that's a shame! Would have been awesome to meet face to face, maybe try on a helmet or two. Then again, it would probably make sense for us to spend the night in Poland, as it still pretty much has Eastern European prices.

Yeah, by bashing his head with a shield, great fun :D

Higgins, I have a house (with rooms for rent) under my "supervision" (owners live somewhere else now, trying to sell it... I'm watering the flowers, checking installations, you know) and I think you could spend a night or two there (for free of course), no problem... BUT! there's a one huge drawback: it's at the very border with Slovakia... really far from your planned route, unfortunately.
But if you will need help finding or negotiating a house to rent, just let me know.
