So what is your plan now, guys? From what I gather: take Hilde and Otto to workshop, than try to find the herbalist?

My initial thought was to head straight towards the herbalist but hiding Karl's family at the workshop while Hans and Karl go look for the herbalist.

Day still, but it's very cloudy. It's gonna be dark in 2-3 hours.

Then it might be wise to go through the woods rather than use the road.

Karl has decided it would be a bad idea to leave Hilde and Otto at the smith's workshop. There's no saying when he might go back there, or if he is part of the mob. And besides, they're going to the herbalist to get herbs for Otto.

The doors are not locked, you can get inside easily.

I wanted to use Gut Feeling while observing the priest and his "congregation" to try to find out "What am I missing?". I'm suspicious of the green smoke in particular.

It's clear that this priest's rhetoric would not be enough to convince people to murder each other. Not under normal conditions. This smoke must be some kind of drug, making them obedient.
What are you missing? Well, they say sir Erich is a gifted herbalist. He must've discovered this drug-like herb and gave it to Georgius...
