Oh, and I thought 5 rounds were madness...
Now there was a 8 (EIGHT) round fight between Belgium and Luxembourg in longsword. It ended in a sudden death contest - first hit wins. And there was a great chivalrous gesture from Laurent (Luxembourg)! Incredible! Win for Belgium, fair-play award for Lux!

From the chat:

random uninteresting fact of the day: "velho", like in the location name, is wizard in finnish

Seems like Marras is not the only guy from Finland who felt the urge to share this linguistic knowledge with the world
Sorry I'm spamming here...

Your commentary is great Korbel
Had to do some woodwork in the garden today, so sadly no time to watch streams. Hope that they will upload Higgins' ordeal afterwards!

Yeah. That was insane. I was marshaling that match as a clicker for Laurent.
The best part was that all the battle commands and whatnot were given in French as both the fighters and the Quebec head marshal spoke it as their native language.

The weather over there was looking kind of crazy today Higgins. Did everyone just have to mill around and wait for everything to clear up?

No waiting. Our only concern was the chance of thunder, as the all the fighters are... well grounded. Metal armor and all that jazz.
Also, according to the forecast, tomorrow will be far, far worse.

That sounds exciting. I can see how beautiful it all is actually having your tournament on actual castle grounds but has the IMCF ever thought about holding the championships indoors?
On a side note Higgins, I showed the live stream to some of the teachers and students at the school I work and they have been showing the fights on the schools overhead projectors in multiple classrooms the past 2 days. I told them about you and the Estonian team. You can let you team know there is at least a dozen American teachers and students cheering for you guys.
Best of luck!

Oh, Henri, I see you have to do marshaling while your buddy is fighting in the next list... No luck!
And the Estonian wins! Great!

I highly doubt it. The whole look and garb is too big a part of simulating the medieval tournaments, which were also held outside. Plus nobody in their right mind would let us anywhere near a suitably medieval interior. We'd wreck it. Instantly. No joke.

That's awesome.
The US team was doing really well, too. The female fighter took the silver today.

Yeah. I was planning to have someone switch me out so I could watch my own team fight like I did yesterday, but we were completely out of floaters, so, there was no replacement clicker for me.

Jaan is a really good fighter, but he had the rotten luck of being paired with Lukas Kowal in the eliminations.
And in case anyone wonders, yes, that's where Andrev's last name really comes from. I fought Lukas last year in Prague.

The event is over and it's been so great. There were a few calls to the medics, but everyone walked off the lists on their own feet. I'm sure some of the fighters hated us for giving them hard time and sending them off the lists when we found gaps in their armor, but no ambulances had to be called.
And of course, I'm very pleased I made it to the quarter finals and got to fight my friend Andrew.
So sad to leave in such a rush, but we have four days of 16-hour driving shifts ahead of us before we reach home. I have no idea how I'll be able to adjust to my mundane life again.
