Don't be so shy, you have your sword and two allies beside you.

Well, I have a sword and one ally, I am not so sure of Giacomo being Cirillo's ally... Anyway, this is between nobles and it's best that Cirillo keeps his mouth shut.

OK, what are the exact rules for dueling? We fight to first blood, I suppose? Are there any prohibited moves?

And what are the consequences of a duel?

Like if Blasio loses, does he have to admit to raping Francesca? (I doubt so..)

The rules are set by the seconds (who each talk to whom they represent separately). Usually it is:
Fight until predetermined state (first blood, surrender, death etc) or if not specified it is until either one person yields or their second calls a halt (the second can do this so that you don't have to die and the person in the dual can maintain a little honour by not having to themselves admit defeat).
Identical weapons and armour
Gentleman's fighting; no brawling but disarming is okay

But basically, the rules are whatever the participants decide through their seconds.

Do you want to sort out these specifics OOC or through roleplay? Enrico and Blasio probably want to stipulate some things too.

Cirillo/Marco also need to decide on a Time and Place for the dual (Enrico and Blasio get no say). It is usually done in a time and place that is relatively isolated so noone but the second can interfere. This might be a bridge at midnight, a boat at sea or somewhere in the wilderness of the mainland. At-least 24hrs notice so each party can get their will and affairs in order would be gentlemanly, but you could technically make it the same day.

As for consequences, if Blasio loses yes, he is deemed to be guilty in the sight of God and he must turn himself in to be judged by the courts to decide his punishment (they might still give him a light sentence, but he is definitely guilty. Injuries sustained during the dual may be considered as punishment enough if serious). He might try to maintain his innocence, but in the eyes of God and the court he is guilty. If Marco loses it is deemed that his accusations are baseless and owes Blasio a formal apology; it would also make it all but impossible to get the law to convict Blasio of the rape unless he were to confess.

Let's do this OOC.
Can we fight in armor? That would be much safer. At least a mail shirt to ensure your vitals will not be pierced.
As for the Gentleman's rules... well, having the option to punch somebody in the face would be a good way to win a duel but don't kill your opponent. But I suppose it's not very noble and elegant? I'm not sure Blasio will agree to that.
As Cirillo is my second, does he have to roll to negotiate terms, or something?

No. Blasio has the sole determination of weapons and armour and he chose Rapier, no armour. It is a very big advantage for the defender, so people don't just go challenging everyone to duels.
You have sole determination of time and place (as well as the option of whether you wanted to challenge him or not).
Korbel wrote:As Cirillo is my second, does he have to roll to negotiate terms, or something?
Um.... Well, lets see.

Blasio wants: Fight until surrender or second calls halt, gentleman's fighting rules, no spectators other than seconds, each side can have 1 backup rapier held by their second in case their first breaks.

If you find that acceptable no rolls required.

Looks good, but if there's a chance to change the terms so that the risk of fatality is reduced, than maybe we should try? I want mail shirts and/or no gentleman's rules. And Marras really likes to roll the dice, how can I deprive him of an opportunity? :D

Then Cirillo will roll Social 2 + Manipulation 4 + Keep my friends safe 3 (I think this SA applies because he is actually directly asking for safety). Versus Ob 3.

For each MOS Blasio will concede to make it a little safer.
1 mos = allowed a buckler or parrying dagger
2 mos = maille armour (chest only), no buckler
3 mos = maille armour (chest only) + open helm, no buckler

Here's my roll. Didn't Marco want to have it to first blood or is it Cirillo's duty to call the fight to end if/when Marco gets hit?

[dice seed=51686 secure=28079c75_0]9d10[/dice]

I can't believe it! :o

Kinda expected that. If not this one success you would probably have to duel, too.
Hehe, I remember when you were rolling in private for our game. With Advantage. 8 dice - 2 successes, 7 dice - 1 success. LOL.

Yeah, it seems that even virtual dice hate me

Excellent, a complication related to the dual. :D

Blasio and Enrico flat out refuse to budge on their choice of weapon and armour or they wont recognise the duel as valid. In fact, Blasio now insists that the duel take place using a Case of Rapier; that is dual wielding a Rapier in each hand with no armour.
Karl asks Marco for the direction to a warehouse they can use for the ambush.
Once he has the place, with the help of those who are not going to talk to Blasio, he will transport the prisoners to the warehosue.
He will treat the prisoners well.
Marco thinks the merchant Nicolo Gonzago might be able to help.
I believe this is the next thing to happen? Unless Marco insists of the dual taking place immediately. Marco needs to set a time and location for the dual.

Also, Lucio (Cirillo's mentor) is due to arrive in Venice in the next few days.
