OK. We play with Baby Steps.
And remember we can always use Simple Combat. Simple Combat is simple, fast and should be fun. Use it whenever you feel you need it.

I'm not familiar with Baby Steps (or any of the levers, has that content been released?)

Also, I perceive that my second SA may be firing right now.

Of course it is, your TN will now be 5.

OK, in this case she attacks you with her sickle (Agnete takes care of Gunther). Swing at Belly for 6 dice. You want to do Grab Weapon as a defense, I suppose? It's free of AC for you. How many dice you invest?

PS. I think Agathe should have a Disadvantage for using an improvised weapon.

Basic maneuvers sound good.

Not going to disagree with Agathe having disadvantage!

It is about now I'm realising Baby Steps is a good idea.

I believe my pool is 14 (3 AGI + 3 CUN + 8 Brawl). As you say, no activation cost for Grab due to my Brawling speciality. I think that if I succeed at the grab, the combat should be over (unless the other lady bashes my head in with a staff, but there's not much I can do about that right now), or at the very least all she'll be able to do is punch me or wrestle me for the weapon, so I'm going to use all of my dice.

I assume I need to preempt, being the defender. I have no idea what proficiency she has, but hopefully it's low (peasant girl...). I'll use 4 dice to boost my speed, and then Grab with the remaining 10.

If I end up with the scythe in my hands (and not hers), I will attempt to toss it as far away as possible, or somewhere nearby that she won't be able to get it (on a roof or something).

Cooperative players, that's what I needed :D
Stempest wrote:I assume I need to preempt, being the defender.
It seems like you don't have to... Preempting is only when you declare an offensive maneuver. As Grab can be defensive (see p54), I believe you don't have to preempt. So - keep those 4 dice.
(correct me if I'm wrong)
Stempest wrote:If I end up with the scythe in my hands (and not hers), I will attempt to toss it as far away as possible, or somewhere nearby that she won't be able to get it (on a roof or something).
OK, good. So I'll roll my Swing at TN 7:

[dice seed=63827 secure=6227c32b_0]6d10[/dice]

(explosions, if any)
[dice seed=565 secure=cb4351a4_1]2d10[/dice]

---------------------

Sweet, 3 successes. Roll your 10 dice Grab or die.

I am totally not following what you've done there.

I don't understand why you're adding the values, I thought you just counted the successes? Also, are you exploding the 9s? I thought it was 10 (zeroes) that exploded?

My 10d10 dice results in ascending order:
2, 4, 5, 5, 5, 6, 7, 7, 8, 8

Based on the understanding I'm at TN5 for an SA firing, that's 8 successes.

Also, for what it's worth, if I had realised I didn't have to preempt, I would have thrown 14d10, so I rolled my other 4 dice. They came up:
1, 2, 3, 6.

If you want to make me use all 14, do so by all means, since that's what I intended.

With 8 successes vs 3 successes, I believe that means I end up holding the scythe. If so, I will attempt to toss it somewhere she can't get it, or if there's nowhere like that, as far away as I can.

Yes, we only count the successes. Total score is irrelevant, ignore this.
That's just how this basic dice roller gives you results. Anyway, use it. The button is between "Font color" and "s" when you are posting your message.
Stempest wrote:Also, are you exploding the 9s? I thought it was 10 (zeroes) that exploded?
Oh, I just just rolled some additional dice in case there are any 10s. But there were not, ignore this as well.

So, she got three successes from her first pool of 6 dice (results: 9, 8. 9). No explosions, that's it.

OK, so you have 8 successes, that's MoS 5. The sickle is in your hand. If you want to throw it away and do it fast, while being in grapple, I would say you can't specify, where it lands. You just throw in some random direction, it's now out of reach for all of you.

OK, that was the first tempo. You are now in grapple. But - you don't have any dice left for the second tempo. In this case she tries to punch you in your face!
Unarmed Thrust at Head, 4 dice.

[dice seed=28081 secure=91bf0928_0]4d10[/dice]

-----------

3 successes.
MoS 3 + Strength 2 - 1 damage (unarmed) - 3 Stamina = that's a level 1 blunt

lets roll location
[dice seed=42405 secure=46f69fd5_1]d6[/dice]

--------

Oh, she connected to the face.
Slight bump. Won’t even leave a shiner.
Anyway, you lose 2 dice from impact for the next Phrase. And she's got initiative!

Better than getting stabbed with a sickle!

Is the other woman still laying into Gunther?

Definitely.
OK, she tries to strangle you. AC 2, 5 dice to roll:
[dice seed=42985 secure=3ffc709b_0]5d10[/dice]

--------

Only one success. Roll your defense (Resist, Break or Reverse) or suffocate ;)

Possibly best not to show me your dice rolls before I've decided what I'm rolling in defence. Happy for you to declare attacks, I declare defence, then you roll them both. Seems the quickest way to do things without giving me the chance to cheat (or rather, having my decision influenced, consciously or otherwise, by knowing your result, since I wouldn't intentionally cheat).

Against 5 attacking dice, I'll attempt to Break. 7 dice rolled, 1 AC. 2 dice gone last tempo from getting smacked in the face. 4 dice left.
[dice seed=46931 secure=4bea1b9d_0]7d10[/dice]

Exploded die:
[dice seed=19509 secure=95079667_1]1d10[/dice]

(Previewing lets you see what you rolled, but the dice seed stays the same).

7 successes. It appears I have broken away from the grapple.
To the girl spouting rhetoric in the other thread: "What on earth are you on about?!"
To Gunther: "Gunther, what the hell did you do!?"

Karl will not attack. He will ready himself to receive the girl's attack in the second tempo. (If she does nothing and a new turn starts, I will think about actions then).

Good, we can do that.

Indeed.
Stempest wrote:(If she does nothing and a new turn starts, I will think about actions then).
And that's the case. Next Phrase. She will try to Grab you with 4 dice. Looks like Gunther is trying to escape.

Karl will attempt to disengage with 7 dice (7 remaining), and then attempt to run with Gunther.

Grab:
[dice seed=48429 secure=c0491245_0]4d10[/dice]
(boom boom boom?)
[dice seed=17995 secure=05c59b7e_1]3d10[/dice]

Disengage:
[dice seed=19425 secure=dc7b806c_2]7d10[/dice]
(bam bam bam)
[dice seed=20255 secure=222cd9e4_3]4d10[/dice]

----------

Disengage succesful, Gunther's too.

--------

OK, Gunther is too slow to escape. You can either leave him behind, or help him make it to the barn and hide there together.

No man left behind. Karl will assist Gunther or try to distract or slow the women without harming them. He may be a jerk, but he (probably) doesn't deserve this.
