There is a very simple lock inside, you can use it.

Chances are that Karl knows Ruthard too unless he's younger than 20 years old. 20 yeasr ago Ruthard was the adopted son of the previous village priest, and Hilde was his sweetheart. But the priest died and the villagers persecuted Ruthard for his albinism, believing he was a demon.

What was the relationship between Karl and Ruthard, if any? I assume Karl hooked up with Hilde after he left. (e.g. that there would be no bad blood for the fact Hilde is now Karl's wife?)

Was his adopted father a normal person, or a crackpot like Georgius?

Its up to you. Maybe they barely knew each other, maybe there was an open war.

Father Felix was a really nice guy.

Ruthard was an albino toddler abandoned at the church steps and father Felix took him in. Hilde was his childhood friend and sweetheart, and one of the few people in the village who didn't hate him. If Karl was born and raised in the village he could either be also his friend along with Hilde, making them a gang of three, or he could hate and fear him like the rest of the villagers. Or Karl came to this village after Ruthard left and they are strangers. I leave that up to you to decide, I'm equally cool with either one of those three scenarios.

Father Felix was the exact opposite of Georgius, a kind person who cared about everyone in the community, even the albino child everyone thought of being a demon.
